Rice University is a comprehensive research university with a distinctive commitment to undergraduate education. Rice professors are among the most distinguished faculty in the world, and with fewer than 20 students in 58 percent of Natural Sciences courses, there is ample opportunity for personal attention. Rice strives to provide an intellectually vibrant campus that offers a supportive learning environment for all.
The Wiess School of Natural Sciences offers 20 majors and seven minors, allowing students to explore their interests in a wide range of courses taught by world-class faculty in our six departments: Biosciences; Chemistry; Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences; Kinesiology; Mathematics; and Physics and Astronomy. Even as freshmen, all of our students have access to mentored research opportunities with our faculty and our partners at the Texas Medical Center. Many of our students present their work at conferences and publish in top research journals before they graduate. These high-quality research experiences are a valuable complement to coursework, ensuring that our students are exceptionally well prepared for graduate studies and professional careers.
We invite you to learn more about Rice Natural Sciences at an information session for prospective undergraduate students. Information sessions are held on select Mondays throughout the year at 11AM. To register, use the Office of Admission visit registration form. Once you select the day of your visit, you will be able to select available activities, including the School of Natural Sciences information session.
