Angel Martí, professor of chemistry and chair of the Department of Chemistry, has received the inaugural Dr. Marie Maynard Daly Award from the New York section of the American Chemical Society.
In announcing the award, the New York ACS said of Martí, “An exceptional academic, researcher, educator, mentor and unwavering advocate for diversity and inclusion in science, he exemplifies the very ideals this honor represents. His journey and contributions serve as a powerful source of inspiration for K–12 students, undergraduates, and early- to mid-career scientists from similarly underrepresented backgrounds.”
Marie Maynard Daly was the first African American woman to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry. The New York ACS created the Daly award to honor outstanding active professionals in the fields of chemistry and chemical engineering who are high achievers in research careers in academic, industrial or government settings and who have a demonstrated record of successfully mentoring and supporting individuals from underrepresented groups to pursue careers in the chemical sciences.
