Sachin Allahabadi ('13 KINE), pursues MD at Baylor College of Medicine

Recent Kinesiology-Sports Medicine and Bioengineering alumnus, Sachin Allahabadi '13, attends medical school at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, TX as a second-year medical student. Having developed a strong interest in exercise physiology while at Rice, Sachin hopes to pursue a medical career related to Sports Medicine.

Sachin 2At Rice, Sachin served as a TA for the Human Physiology course, captained the Club Basketball team, and tutored and mentored his peers as a Head Academic Fellow and Head Peer Academic Advisor at Sid Richardson College. Sachin pursued several service trips as an undergraduate, including a summer-immersive experience as an English teacher in Costa Rica through a Loewenstern Fellowship and four Alternative Spring Break trips, two of which he served as a site leader. In 2013, Sachin received the Mumford Award for his leadership and service as a health professions student and graduated with the honors of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude.

After graduating from Rice, Sachin received a ThinkSwiss Research Scholarship to pursue research in Exercise Physiology with Dr. Bengt Kayser in Switzerland. In Switzerland, Sachin helped study the effects of caffeine on performance and both central and peripheral fatigue on a single-leg extension exercise.

While in medical school, Sachin has received his Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification from the American College of Sports Medicine, and currently leads free bodyweight workout classes to BCM students and faculty on weekends. He acts as the Student Wellness Program president and helped organize a Kids' 1K Race at the BCM Wellness 5K event this past fall. During his first year as a medicalstudent, Sachin placed 1st in the JK Alexander Medical Student Research Symposium for a poster presentation on research in bioengineering that he performed at Rice in the Mikos lab. Sachin is currently engaging in research in Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics, and hopes to pursue a career in academic medicine in which he can serve as teaching faculty. He continues to mentor his peers by serving as a Peer Resource Network leader. Sachin enjoys tutoring first year students in Anatomy and also continues to serve as a volunteer TA for the Rice Anatomy Lab course.

Sachin has also recently found a passion for endurance athletics; notably, in addition to completing several half-marathon races, he placed 2nd in the Men's 20-24 year old age division in the Kemah Sprint Triathlon in 2013 and recently completed the Houston Marathon this past January 2015. Sachin's younger brother, Sameer Allahabadi, is now a freshman at Rice and is also pursuing a major in Kinesiology-Sports Medicine.
